Meet Zoe

I am an artist and a designer, and work mostly with drawing and textile.

I also work on developing a project that combines craft and social inclusion, to upcycle textile waste and make new garments. I started working on this project during my graduation year, and I am now in the process of developing a business model that brings several actors together for a larger-scale impact.

Since I went to Japan to learn Shibori with artisans in Arimatsu, I have been teaching some of the traditional techniques, to adults and children.

On time schedules

I am trying to find a balance at the moment. But I feel pretty lucky overall because I can have a lot of time to dedicate to what gives me pleasure, and the chores are just necessary steps towards more important achievements.

On getting started

I think it depends on character. For me, it’s more important to make often, than to make it right. For instance, I prefer inventing my own tools, even if it’s not exactly fitting, and starting small with what is at hand so I can start whenever I want, than having to find the right space, the right time, the right material, which feels to me like a struggle and an obstacle.
